To understand the biosynthesis and regulatory mechanisms of squalene and β-sitosterol in different T. grandis cultivars, we carried out comparative transcriptomic analysis of T. grandis seeds from nine cultivars, candidate genes involved in the squalene and phytosterols biosynthesis were detected, and their expression patterns were analyzed as well.This study will not only provide basic information and valuable genomic resource for further exploration and understanding of the expression network and detailed regulation mechanisms leading to squalene and β-sitosterol biosynthesis, but also helpful for further engineering modification and molecular breeding of the productive T. grandis cultivars with high squalene and phytosterols levels.
