Identifying cdiGMP receptors via a DRaCALA ORFeome Screen

This is a presentation I gave at the Mid-Atlantic Microbial Pathogenesis 2013 Meeting. Here I describe why we would be interested in identifying the receptors of small molecules and how DRaCALA can assist. DRaCALA is a new biochemical assay of protein-ligand interactions that can be used to systematically screen genomes for genes encoding ligand-binding proteins. The complete set of genomically encoded receptors for a given metabolite will define the regulatory potential of that metabolite. Systematic identification of metabolite interactomes can reveal novel mechanisms of biological regulation and identify the biological targets of pharmaceuticals.
