Data from two manipulative experiments investigating the effect of different level canopy removal on algal turf invasion in Capraia Island. -RECOVERY LENGTH EXPERIMENT-Datasets named Rec.len_HSRturf_Capraia_2014 and Rec.len_HSRturf_Capraia_2015 include data on propagation of algal turf for different level of canopy removal in 8 90x30 cm experimental transects. In each transect two region of different quality were produced: a cleared patch (30x30cm), where all erect organisms were removed and a canopy-degraded region (of 60x30cm) which was allocated to the following conditions: 0%, 25%, 50% and 75% of canopy removal. The cleared patch and canopy-degraded region were sampled at the scale of 2 x 2 cm, yielding 675 observations for each transect. Algal turfs cover was assessed twice: after one and two years from the set-up of the experiment (July 2014, July 2015).Datasets named Rec.len_C.amentacea_2014 and Rec.len_C.amentacea_2015 include data of Cystoseira amentacea cover of cleared patches in and canopy degraded region for each transect. -CANOPY REMOVAL EXPERIMENT-The dataset named Exp.Can.rem_HSRTurf_2015 includes data of turf cover for different level of canopy removal (0%, 25%, 50% and 75%). 8 transects of 60 x 30 cm were randomly assigned that to these treatments:0%, 25%, 50% and 75% of canopy removed. Visual estimates of percentage cover of algal turfs was obtained by sampling these transects in July 2015 as described above. Dataset named ExpCanrem_C.amentacea_2015 include data of Cystoseira amentacea cover for each experimental transect.-R SCRIPTS The R file named Maximum-Likelihood estimation includes the script to conduct the maximum likelihood estimation of Turf-Cystoseira model parameter. The R file named Rec_len_Bootstrap includes the script to compute recovery length metrics (Half-point recovery length (Lhalf) and the Exponential recovery length (Lexp) ) and the bootstraps standard errors.
