JeuDeGrosMots - jeu de données

This dataset contains a list of 3529 french words deemed as "inapropriate" . 

It encapsulates the original french-badwords-list (Copyright (c) 2013 Maurice Butler), containing 2432 words and 1097 added words from anonymous contributors through the JeuDeGrosMots gamified data collection web platform.Original dataset was last updated 9 years ago. Additional data was collected from April to May 2026.

Original purpose of the dataset

This dataset was originally constituted for moderation purposes of a web app research project made for students.

Each word in the 1097 added words of the dataset was manually validated as "inapropriate" in an education purpose. It can be :

a vulgar term or slang

an insult

a discriminatory term

a sexual term or expression or a term or expression with a sexual connotation (note : organic, scientific and non-offensive terms are not considered as "sexual")

a term or expression solely used in familiar contexts

an acronym or an abbreviation for a vulgar term

other terms that would fit in this list without being relevant to an educative context

This dataset was constituted by French natives. Foreign words that may be present are commonly used by speakers at the time of this release.
