Several unsaddled horses stand at center, while a third rider makes his way toward them. Still more wild horses are visible in the right distance. In the center distance, the quadrilateral enclosure of the presidio is visible alongside a winding road. Picture file card reads "Choris was a painter attached to the Kotzebue exploring expedition sent out from Russia in the ship 'Rurick'. The drawing shows the barracks and storeroom of the presidio (These have disappeared except from a portion of the southern side, now used as officers club)".
