Student Choice in Higher National Diploma Courses, 1979-1980

<P>Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.</P><br>The number of students undertaking diploma courses in further education has expanded in recent years. In the light of this, the aims of the now completed project were to gain a better understanding of the bases upon which students opt for entry, and to look at student characteristics and drop-out in the first year of study.<br>
The courses, of two or three years' duration, that were selected for study were Computer Data Processing, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Chemistry, these subjects being regarded as particularly relevant in view of the national demand for qualified manpower in these areas. Initial exploratory interviews were supplemented by a survey of all entrants in Scotland for the academic session 1979/80.
