资源简介:
Every milliliter of Lake Zurich water contains roughly 1 million
heterotrophic bacteria that play a major role in the microbial food web.
However, only a small portion have been described so far, as most of
them can’t be grown on standard culture media. As it has become more and
more evident how small our understanding of the microbial world is, we
started to gravitate around the usage (and development) of
culture-independent techniques. Thanks to these novel approaches,
previously unknown species are discovered, analyzed, and assessed for
their potential application in pharma, medicine and beyond.
This is data relating to our report, where we discuss a third-generation
sequencing technique, through which a metagenomic dataset was
generated, and various database-oriented techniques used in genomic
analyses. Further, we describe two new species of bacteria found within
our metagenome, including their basic characteristics and some of their
metabolic pathways and capabilities.
