Identification of mobile colistin resistance genes (mcr-1.1, mcr-5, mcr-8.1) in Enterobacteriaceae of human and animal origins, Nigeria.. Enterobacteriaceae

WGS of bacterial isolates from human and animal samples collected in Nigeria identifies mcr genes conferring bacterial resistance to colistin, the last-resort antibiotic. Also, the WGS identified genes mediating resistance to beta-lactams, tetracyclines, quinolones, sulfonamides and trimethoprim. These findings further highlight the global colistin resistance mechanism and emphasize the urgent need for coordinated global action to combat pan-drug resistant bacteria.
