IowaRain

The IowaRain dataset was developed by the IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering at the University of Iowa, focusing on rainfall events in Iowa from 2016 to 2019. Processed using the U.S. National Weather Service's Next-Generation Radar (NEXRAD) system and Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QPE) systems, this dataset offers detailed rainfall event data, including rainfall rate, temporal and spatial resolution, and other relevant metrics. The dataset creation workflow entails collecting raw data from multiple radar stations, performing sophisticated algorithmic processing and quality control, and finally generating 2D rainfall rate maps for climate change modeling and disaster management applications. The IowaRain dataset has broad application prospects, primarily used to enhance disaster monitoring, response and recovery efforts, support predictive and prescriptive modeling, and facilitate data-driven research in the environmental domain.
