HMP Fungal 18S Metagenomics Pilot. uncultured fungus

This HMP pilot will generate Sanger paired end sequencing of fungal 18S rRNA genes amplified from skin sites. Coupled with other data generated for these samples, this will provide insights into the diversity and variation of fungi present at the selected skin sites. As much of the HMP data and tools have focused on bacteria, this data set will be used to establish parallel methods to survey for fungi and other eukaryotes in addition to bacteria. Such methods can then be applied in other Human Microbiome Project studies to examine the contributions of both bacteria and fungi to disease.
