This experimental project was made possible by an international collaboration between the National Centre for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), Taiwan and QuakeCoRE, New Zealand Centre for Earthquake Resilience. Both Taiwan and New Zealand belong to high seismic hazard regions and experiences from past earthquakes brought up needs for assessing displacement demands on existing reinforced concrete buildings subjected to torsion. The series of shake-table tests were therefore conducted in NCREE Tainan Laboratory using the high-performance earthquake simulator. The primary objective of the experiments was to investigate displacement demand due to inelastic torsional response. Two specimens were designed to test different source of torsional irregularities and the test data were made available for the public on DesignSafe.
