The high recurrence rates of bacterial vaginosis (BV) make it is an important issue to find available agents to achieve sustained cure of BV. In the present study, we raised the conception of vaginal microbiota transplantation (VMT) and verified its feasibility in vivo. Our results indicated that the whole vaginal microbiota of rats, the whole vaginal microbiota of women, and the selected probiotic combinations isolated from women secretion could effectively reduce the inflammatory cell infiltration and significantly reduced the pro-inflammatory factors. Moreover, the whole vaginal microbiota of rats, the whole vaginal microbiota of women was beneficial to recovery the microbial diversity to normal level, which might be beneficial to avoid the recurrence of BV. Our study indicated that the VMT is effective to treat BV using rat model, though much more work is need to explore its potential mechanisms and extend this conception to clinic.
