WGS of Plasmodium reichenowi. WGS of Plasmodium reichenowi

The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute Pathogen Genomics group is undertaking deep coverage Illumina sequencing of a number of different species of Plasmodium. This will serve as a useful comparative genomics resource to complement the almost complete Plasmodium falciparum 3D7 genome. The chimpanzee malaria parasite P. reichenowi is phylogenetically closest to the human parasite P. falciparum. Both parasites differ in vertebrate and invertebrate host specificity, but morphologically and at the gene/protein level, they are quite similar.
