Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory Malacology Collection

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) Malacology (Mollusc) collection comprises over 64,000 specimen lots for scientific research and education purposes. Specimens are either dry or stored in 70% ethyl alcohol for morphological study or absolute ethyl alcohol for genetics studies.
The bulk of the collection is registered into a database. Marine, land and freshwater species of molluscs are represented in the collection, with substantial holdings of shallow water tropical species from the Indo-Pacific, South East Asia and Northern Australia, with smaller holdings from other locations.
Specimens can be lent to workers at other institutions upon application and the MAGNT also welcomes visiting researchers.
