Data for "Comparative analysis of early interactions observed in families with infants and toddlers with Down syndrome versus families with infants and toddlers with typical development"

Results from data collected in project Fondecyt 1221400 "Paving the way for autonomy: An interdisciplinary approach to the relationship between early interactions and adaptive behaviour in infants with Down Syndrome"The overall goal of the project is to analyze the relationship between Parent-Child Interaction (PCI) and the development of Adaptive Behaviors (AB) in babies with Down Syndrome (DS), aiming to develop a comprehensive theoretical model using a multilevel approach to support a complex social intervention program to strengthen those interactions and improve the quality of life of these families. The project was guided by the following research questions: are there patterns of PCI that boost or hinder the development of AB in babies with DS? Could a multi-level approach enhance our understanding of PCI in presence of a disability? Is a program of parental measurement to draw upon PCI to enhance the development of AB in this population effective?We proposed an experimental design based on an interdisciplinary approach with a longitudinal component (24 months) with two studies. The first study explored the relationship between PCI and AB comparing a group of dyads including children with DS and a group of dyads including children with TD (12 to 36 months old) from two methodological approaches combining direct (physiological markers) and indirect variables (behavior observation and third-person reports). The second study explored the effectiveness of a multilevel evidence-based program, adapted to sociocultural characteristics and supported by technology, aimed towards boosting parental competencies in the PCI components.
