Canek Velocity Database: Daily Motion-Corrected Velocity Profiles from the Yucatan Channel Mooring Array (Campaign 57, 2021–2023)
收藏资源简介:
Dataset form the A High-Resolution Current Velocity Database from Observations in the Yucatan Channel data descriptorCanek Velocity Database Daily motion-corrected velocity profiles from the Canek mooring array deployed across the Yucatan Channel between September 2021 and August 2023. Eastward and northward velocity components are interpolated to fixed depths using a shape-preserving piecewise cubic Hermite interpolation (PCHIP) scheme, corrected for mooring motion, and filtered to suppress tidal and supra-inertial variability. The repository also includes instrumental and interpolation uncertainty estimates. The dataset is described in detail in the accompanying Nature Scientific Data Data Descriptor. File Format One NetCDF-4 file per mooring (12 files total) Filename convention: Canek_57_<MOORING_ID>_L3_daily.nc CF-1.10 compliant Feature type: TimeSeriesProfile Dimensions time × depth Daily temporal resolution Fixed target depths defined from the most representative observed depth of each instrument bin Coordinates time — days since 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC depth — meters, positive downward lat — degrees north lon — degrees east Variables u Eastward velocity (m s⁻¹) v Northward velocity (m s⁻¹) sigma_b Base (instrumental) uncertainty (m s⁻¹) sigma_i Vertical interpolation uncertainty estimated from bootstrap resampling (m s⁻¹) Processing Summary Velocity records were quality-controlled following manufacturer recommendations. Processing steps include: Removal of side-lobe contamination Removal of acoustic-interference bins Mooring-motion correction using pressure observations Vertical interpolation using PCHIP 48-hour Gaussian low-pass filtering Daily subsampling Estimation of instrumental uncertainty (sigma_b) Estimation of vertical interpolation sensitivity through repeated random subsampling without replacement (sigma_i) A complete description of the methodology is provided in the accompanying Data Descriptor. Spatial and Temporal Coverage Region Yucatan Channel (approximately 21°N, 84°W–87°W), spanning the section between the Yucatan Peninsula and Cuba. Time span September 2021 – August 2023 *The Canek observing program involves contributions from numerous investigators, technicians, students, and ship personnel over multiple deployments.
