This dataset contains results from the research study "Reassessing groundwater sustainability in coastal regions: extensive well observations and their implications for climate resilience" by Nolte et al. The results consist of spatio-temporally aggregated data for grid cells in coastal regions on a) data conversion and data analysis; b) water table depth (WTD), c) trends in groundwater level (GWL) time series, and d) data availability metrics. The methods used to generate the results and the data sources of raw GWL data are provided in the publication. The results are provided in GIS format and as text document. In addition, main results presented and discussed in the publication are provided as vector images. Placeholder for missing data is "-9999". Columns are defined as follows: "Id": Unique grid cell identifier a) information for data conversion and data analysis: "area": Area of grid cell (unit: square kilometers) "locations": Number of individual wells in grid cell "converted": Note weither "WTD_med" was derived from converting "WTD_medSL" using elevation data (0:no; 1:yes) "region": Focus-region defined in the research study (NA:North America; EU:Europe; IN:India; AU:Australia; ZA:South Africa; BR:Brazil) "elevation": CoastalDEM elevation data "dist_coast": Distance from the coastline "climate": Climate classification b) water table depth (WTD): "WTD_med";"WTD_min";"WTD_max": Median, minimum and maximum absolute WTD in the grid cell (meters below reference point - mbrp) "WTD_medSL";"WTD_minSL";"WTD_maxSL": Median, minimum and maximum relative WTD in the grid cell (meters above sea level - masl) "wtdsim": Simulated WTD "vsmed": Observed median WTD ("WTD_med") minus simulated WTD ("wtdsim") "vsmin": Observed minimum WTD ("WTD_min") minus simulated WTD ("wtdsim") c) groundwater level (GWL) trends: "CRI_19": CRI value over 19 years "CRI_9": CRI value over 9 years "t_stable": Trend stability ratio d) data availability metrics: "days_diff": Samples are on average shifted by n days "start_year": Start year of GWL time series "end_year": End year of GWL time series "samples_M": Number of samples per time series "length_M": Time series period length "avail_M": Data availability ratio
