Long-term observational datasets that record simultaneously the wind and wave in Sri Lanka, which locate the southernmost position of Indian peninsula are of great of importance for coastal oceanographic and monsoon studies and ocean engineering. Because of the special geographic location, the nearshore wave climate character in Matara is different from one of the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, which also are in north Indian Ocean. A long-term hydro-meteorology survey program commenced in December 2012 at Matara located on Sri Lanka’s Southern shore. The archived dataset detailed here includes two set of wave data at two locations of 10m and 13m water depths (in that, at about 5 month synchronous observation), time-series of wind, ocean astronomical tide, air pressure and so on. In addition, on-going access to the results of the continuing hydro-meteorology survey program is described.
