资源简介:
This report presents the findings of the Phase III Investigation of site 44PG316 in Prince George County, Virginia. The site was first identified during land clearing activities associated with the construction of US Route 295. The Virginia Commonwealth University Archaeological Research Center (VCU-ARC) entered a contractual agreement with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to conduct archaeological testing. The initial goals of the investigation were to asses the size and condition of the site and to determine Significance and eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places. Testing was carried out in December of 1988. Test excavations identified an occupation dating to the Middle Woodland period. The investigations also indicated that intact pit features containing ceramics and preserved faunal remains were present. Based on these findings, full scale mitigation and data recovery work was recommended.
