HLA-A and -B antigens were typed by DNA methods and HLA-DRB1 alleles were typed with sequence-specific oligonucleotide probes. One locus mismatch meant 5/6 and two loci mismatch meant 4/6. Unrelated donors were additionally required to match HLA-C and HLA-DQB1 alleles.
