The text proposes an imaginary (but likely) testament of Vanini, which reveals the authentic aim of his tormented existence: the aspiration to immortality. In order to achieve it, the philosopher used discursive and behavioural strategies such as rhetoric, dissimulation, the simulation of dissimulation inspired by libertinism. Hiding among various identities, Vanini, as an authentic protagonist of the Baroque, has forced posterity to a complex and intriguing interpretation.
