VPRS 2573 Transcripts of Proceedings and Report

Following numerous public complaints in connection with industrial insurance claims, [the Royal Commission on Industrial Life Assurance] was appointed to investigate the practices of agents for assurance companies, the forms and documents used in insurance business, the costs of running assurance companies, practices regarding forfeited policies etc.The P0 consignment of this series consists of Volume Three of the Transcripts of Proceedings of the Royal Commission, which contains transcripts for the 14th to the 18th days of the hearing. The P1 consignment contains Volumes Two and Four of the proceedings for the 8th to the 13th days, and the 19th to the 24th days respectively. Whereas the Royal Commission ran from the 7th of March to the 27th of September 1938, this series only contains proceedings from the 25th of March to the 12th of May. Volume One is not extant as at August 2006, nor are any volumes containing transcripts after the 12th of May 1938.These Transcripts were the reference copies used by Arthur Calwell, who was the Secretary of this Royal Commission.
