Genomes of microorganisms that have been isolated in and on the human body, to be used as Reference Genomes for the Human Microbiome Project (HMP). Human Microbiome Project (HMP) Reference Genomes

Over 1000 microbes from cultured and uncultured bacteria that have been previously isolated from the human body, plus several non-bacterial microbes, will be sequenced. Combined with existing and other planned efforts, the total reference collection could reach 3000 genomes. These sequences will provide a benchmark for analysis of the sequence data generated in the 16S rRNA Sequencing and Metagenomes components of HMP.
