The wild relatives of cultivated tomato are a reservoir of disease resistance genes potentially useful for plant breeding programs and to understand the biology of the plant defense mechanisms. The accession LA3858 of Solanum peruvianum is carrier of thermostable root-knot nematode (RKN) resistance and have been conserved and distributed to the scientific community by the C.M. Rick Tomato Genetics Resource Center (TGRC), of the University of California Davis. The aim of this study was to gain insights on the genomic bases of RKN resistance through assembly and the analysis of the S. peruvianum genome and to contribute to the evolutionary study of the genera.
