资源简介:
This database refers to a research that aims to analyze whether party ideology influences the participation of legislative actors in the production of norms related to regional integration. The literature on regional integration and political parties has focused essentially on studies about the European Union. In the case of Latin America, the traditional separation between public opinion and international politics justifies the absence of such studies on the region’s projects. This article aims to fill this gap through an analysis of the Brazilian case. We compare proposed legislations under consideration by the French and Brazilian legislative houses in order to verify if the ideologies of the majority of the Lower or Upper Houses, the President of the Republic and the Presidents of the Legislative Houses influence the approval of projects re¬lated to regional integration. We cover the time period from 1991 to 2014, and the unit of analysis is the year. Because the data distribution did not fall within a normal curve, linear regression could not be applied; therefore, a gamma model was used as the analytical technique. The results show that when the norms come from the Upper House, the fact that the President of the Republic is ideologically positioned on the right favors the approval of the said norms. On the other hand, when the majority of the Lower House and its President are on the left of the ideological spectrum, proposals related to regional integration tend to be approved more often.
