Enterococcus faecalis strain W11, which was isolated from salt-preserved wakame, is one of the lactic acid bacteria present in our laboratory's strain collection. The E. faecalis strain W11 consumes 100 mM glycerol within 16 h with or without oxygen, which is higher than those of other E. faecalis strains. In addition, although studies investigating other E. faecalis strains reported that anaerobic glycerol metabolism in E. faecalis requires exogenous fumarate for NADH oxidation, E. faecalis strain W11 can metabolize glycerol in the absence of oxygen without exogenous fumarate. Thus, glycerol metabolisms in the E. faecalis strain W11 are unique. Therefore, analysis of genome DNA of E. facalis strain W11 is important to investigate those glycerol metabolisms.
