Comprehensive Case Study: Multidimensional Etiology, Biomarker-Driven Insights, Nervous System Mechanisms, and Psychiatric Comorbidities in Tourette Syndrome

Tourette syndrome (TS) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by motor and vocal tics, frequently accompanied by psychiatric comorbidities such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), anxiety disorders, and depressive disorders. This comprehensive case study investigates the multidimensional etiology of TS, integrating genetic, environmental, immunological, microbiome-related, neurodevelopmental, nervous system, and socio-cultural factors. Drawing on 2023–2024 evidence from high-impact journals, we highlight quantifiable biomarkers (e.g., MCP-1, ASO titers, anti-NMDA antibodies, cortisol, oxytocin, serotonin, 5-HIAA, BDNF) to advance precision diagnostics. A hypothetical case illustrates multimodal therapeutic approaches, addressing challenges such as high costs, limited access, and cultural barriers. This framework redefines TS management by advocating for biomarker-guided, AI-supported interventions, emphasizing the need for longitudinal research and equitable healthcare solutions to optimize outcomes.
