Loot Box: a Gambling-Like Mechanism Aggravates Gaming Addiction

Previous research found that this gambling-like mechanism correlates with excessive gaming and rarity in gambling was correlated to stronger emotional and physiological arousal. Therefore, this study is aimed to explore how individuals’ loot box opening behaviour in video games. This study used the single-factor between-subjects design and conducts behavioural experiments to study the differences in the length of gaming time and the number of item acquisition behaviour under different item acquisition methods (purchase, opening loot box with common items, and opening loot box with rare items) in the game.
