While recent studies have expanded our knowledge of dwarf galaxies and the AGNsresiding in them such work has rarely explored populations of pristine(low-metallicity) low-mass dwarfs and mergers and their interactions betweensuch dwarfs. As such systems represent local analogues of the first galaxies arobust understanding of these targets is required to fully understand the firstbuilding blocks of all galaxies and the seeds from which all SMBHs arise. TheDwarf GIMLI Survey will utilize XMM-Newton to explore the X-ray properties of 10dwarf mergers in order to determine the source of activity suggested by theirmid-IR colors and compare the X-ray properties of this sample with that of acontrol sample of isolated pristine dwarfs.
