Fungal pathogen that acquired heritable and reversible drug resistance

In the human fungal pathogen Candida albicans, transient exposure to subtherapeutic fluconazole doses induces a protective response that we term para-resistance. Like conventional resistance mechanisms, para-resistance is heritable. However, it can also revert spontaneously, like epigenetically-encoded tolerance, persistence ,and heteroresistance. The goal of this study is to examine the genotypes of these para-resistant isolates.
