Bemisia tabaci SSA1-SG1 is a phloem-feeding insect that utilises a wide range of host-plant species. The aims of this work were to (i) investigate the development times and differential gene expression of SSA1-SG1 on five host plants: cassava (Manihot esculenta), tree cassava (Manihot glaziovii), sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas), Phyllanthus (Phyllanthus sp.) and mululuza (Vernonia amygdalina), and (ii) compare gene expression levels using RNA-seq analysis of SSA1-SG1 reared on cassava and when exposed for 48 h and more than 28 days (the F1 generation) to the five host-plants.
