资源简介:
The ledger records details of investments made on behalf of beneficiaries of damages cases who were unable for reasons of age, infirmity or incapacity to take charge of their own affairs. It appears that the ledger was maintained by the Master-in-Equity, Supreme Court (VA 2624) the court official responsible for keeping a record of all the money received by him for, or on account of, or for the use or benefit of any other person and every payment out of such money. As part of the record keeping system cash books and journals were created. The entries from the cash book (which recorded chronologically every sum of money paid into and every payment made from such monies) were transferred to the ledger under a specific account for an individual via the journal. Further research is required to establish its relationship with any other series of cash books or ledgers in archival custody. The account for each person (beneficiary) is recorded alphabetically by surname of the plaintiff. The names of parties to a case are written on separate slips attached to the page. The ledger details accounts relating to the money paid into the court via a court order, and details of investments and interest on investments. The information recorded includes:names of the plaintiff, defendant and the beneficiarycourt order number or the date of order and in some cases the (civil) case numberdate of receipt and payment of moneyjournal and cash book folio numberamount of money paid into the account and the amount of money invested.Series Date RangeThe date of commencement of this series remains undetermined. It appears that from about 1942 the beneficiaries accounts were recorded on Ledger Cards.
