A 78-year-old man in ICU with severe COVID-19 was treated with dexamethasone and tocilizumab. Post-recovery, he developed fatal Clostridium butyricum bacteremia and NOMI, linked to his prescribed probiotics, MIYAIRI 588. Whole genome sequencing confirmed the strain in both his blood and the probiotics, marking the first fatal case of probiotics-related Clostridium butyricum bacteremia post-COVID-19.
