Response of soil bacteria to grassland extensification

The study evaluated the effect of reducing the intensity of agricultural land use, after 3 years, on soil bacterial communities in 45 sites from 3 different regions in Germany. Sites where land use was reduced were only mowed once a year and both fertilization and grazing were discontinued. Adjacent sites continued with the usual practices employed by the farmers.
