Pacific Observatory - Market Access Maps

Raster maps of travel time (hours) to nearest city for the Pacific Island countries. Travel time estimates were derived from the motorized global friction surface developed by Weiss et al (2020) at the 1km grid resolution. Cities were defined with gridded population data (WorldPop) and custom thresholds for two groups of islands:PNG, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands: Cluster of pixels where total population is greater than 5,000 and population density greater than 190 people per sq. km.Smaller islands: Cluster of pixels where total population is greater than 1,000 and population density greater than 50 people per sq. km.
