Histoplasmosis is a disease with high mortality in HIV/AIDS patients. The etiologic agents, Histoplasma capsulatum, H. suramericanum, H. ohiense and H. mississippiense are fungal pathogens with a worldwide distribution. H. suramericanum (formerly named LAm A) is highly endemic in Brazil and responsible for thousands of deaths in HIV/AIDS patients. The main goal of the present project is to understand the monophyletic origin of H. suramericanum (RJ population) using phylogenomics and population genetics approaches on fully sequenced genomes from clinical and environmental isolates.
