Data belonging to the article 'The importance of mangroves greenbelt width to reduce storm waves' by van Wesenbeeck et al.. To quantify confidence in wave reduction capacity of mangroves for wind and swell waves a large number of numerical model simulations is run with the model SWAN. A detailed description of the methods and the results can be found in the article. FILES _______________________________________________________________________________ A - data_wave_attenuation_versus_mangrove_width_percentiles.csv Commma separated file containing the data behind the percentile lines of the relationship between wave attenuation by mangroves as function of the mangrove width. columns: x_meters meters from the start of the mangrove forest p5 5 percentile p50 50 percentile (median) p95 95 percentile B - locs.pkl Pickle file that can be opened with the Python package Pandas. The file contains hydrodynamic inputs for the SWAN modelling and are based on 1000 selected locations originated from the van Zelst et al., (2021) (article: 10.1038/s41467-021-26887-4 data: 10.5281/zenodo.2525658). columns: hs{rp} Significant wave height (offshore) [m] tp{rp} Peak wave period [s] ss{rp} Extreme water level [m +MSL] the values are available for four return periods (2,5,10,25) C - wave_attenuation_in_mangrove_forest_vegz_50cm.nc (1GB) - wave_attenuation_in_mangrove_forest_vegz_0cm.nc (1GB) NetCDF file containing the Significant wave height (Hs) outputs within the mangrove green belt corresponding to the scenarios. The suffix _50cm and _0cm corresponds to the depth of the mangrove forest with respect to MSL. Coordinates: loc 0-1000 locs (referring to the hydrodynamic input as described in locs.pkl) veg_type 0 1 2 (referring to the mangrove schematizations; pioneer, red, black) veg_state 0 1 2 (sparse, medium, dense) fs_slope 500, 750 , 1000 (foreshore slopes) return period (2,5,10,25) x index of grid 0 - 1200. The grid size is 5 m, thus 6 km in total.
