资源简介:
Meta Data:
Bowl Colour - qualitative colour of the bowl used to capture the insects which can be either white, blue or yellowNumber of Insects - continuous quantitative measurement of the number of insects found inside each bowl after one hourNumber of Taxonomic Units - continuous quantitative measurement of the number of visible taxonomic units present in each bowl
The data collection was done on September 26, 2016 from 3pm to 4:15pm at York University Keele Campus. It was a rainy day with dark clouds all over the sky. The weather was humid but a bit cool due to the rain. Groups of students of Ecology Lab 06 used twenty different coloured (yellows, blues, and whites) bowls to determine how many insects were captured after one hour. Soapy water was put up to a third of the bowl in the beginning of the lab. Ten of the bowls were put randomly in the grassland, and another ten was randomly put all over the woodlot. After one hour, the data was collected which determined how many insects were captured and how many taxonomic units were present among the captured insects. The experiment took about 1 hour and 15 minutes, including the data collection.
Prediction:If it rains, more insects will come out and be attracted to the lighter coloured bowls.
Hypothesis:More insects will be present in the grasslands because it has less shade, and is thus wetter, because many insects use water to lay eggs, and more insects will be captured in the yellow and white bowls because they are similar colors to flowers which they may mistake as a food source.
