Arachis hypogaea is an important crop with India and China the leading producers. Arachis hypogaea is one of two AABB tetraploid species in the Arachis genus. Genetic analysis of tetraploid peanut is hindered by the lack of variation within the species as well as the lack of variation with the diploid donors of the component genomes. The first attempt at generating a genetic map involved a BC1 mapping population generated by crossing of a commercial tetraploid variety with an artificially generated AABB tetraploid.
