During arecanut cultivation, we found that albinism occurs in approximately 2‰ of arecanut seedlings. The growth of albinotic seedlings was significantly lower than that of normal seedlings, and then died after several months, thus caused considerable production losses in arecanut industry. Therefore, to understand the causes of albinotic seedlings and to control it effectively is urgently required to improve the planting efficiency of arecanut.
