The advances in sequencing technologies shed light on the unique composition of salivary glands from hematophagous arthropods that can target host hemostasis, immune response and, in several cases enhance pathogen transmission. Xenopsylla cheopis is the main vector of Yersinia pestis, the etiological agent of the bubonic plague, which is still a burden in several regions of the world. Here we provide a more comprehensive analysis of X. cheopis salivary gland composition using new generation sequencing methods. In the absence of X. cheopis genome, this work serves as an extended reference for the identification of potential pharmacological proteins and peptides present in the flea saliva.
