# Title of Dataset: Database of insect host plant relationships from Luis Martorell's Annotated food plant catalog of the insects of Puerto Rico *** This dataset lists insect host-plant relationships for insects and plants found in Puerto Rico as described by Luis F. Martorell in a 1976 book. ## Description of the Data and file structure This dataset was compiled from Luis F. Martorell's book 'Annotated Food Plant Catalog of the Insects of Puerto Rico' published in 1976. The list includes host plant species names and insect order, species, insect authority, and suborder nomenclature for insects that affect shrubs, vines, weeds, grasses, palms, trees and other plants. Importantly, only insects of economic importance or capable of inflicting damage to the host plants were recorded. The file is in .csv format. Taxonomic names are specified as listed in Martorell (1976) and should be cross-referenced with more updated nomenclature. Empty cells indicate no data were provided in the original text.
