VPRS 1761 Records Relating to the Emily McPherson College Development Project

The College Council commenced the Emily McPherson College development project in the late 1960s. An initial study, commissioned by the Council and tabled at the Council's meeting of 19 August 1969, aimed to:* Investigate the present conditions; buildings and facilities and in view of the inevitable growth of the College study the requirements of each department;* Recommend a development program to provide the minimum facilities required by the departments; and* Indicate the feasibility of a development scheme and to estimate the costs involved.The scheme was initially conceived as a five-stage project, involving demolition work, refurbishment, and construction of new buildings. It ceased in 1975 upon advice received from the Deputy Vice-President of the Victoria Institute of Colleges (VA 571). The reason for cessation has not been researched but it may have been related to the proposal, raised around this time, that the College consider amalgamating with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (VA 1046).This series consists of reports, specifications, correspondence, plans and drawings documenting the inception, implementation, and cessation of the project.The series was originally registered with the title Plans.
