helP is a prognostic biomarker in patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa bloodstream infection

Genomic and proteomic analysis was performed to reveal clinically relevant pathogenic factors that are associated with mortality in patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa sepsis. Presence of the helicase gene helP was independently associated with a fatal outcome, and this result was confirmed in a Galleria mellonella infection model, showing that helP mutants have a strongly reduced virulence. The clinical study comprise of 166 clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa from 166 patients.
