Eight adobe brick samples were submitted for macrofloral and pollen analysis from the
Workman House in City of Industry, California. The Workman House is an adobe structure built
in multiple episodes between 1842 and 1870. Analysis of botanical and pollen remains
recovered from the adobe is used to provide information on the construction sequence of the
building. Phytolith analysis of two samples was undertaken after the macrofloral analysis
identified the presence of wheat in the samples in an effort to find evidence of cut phytoliths that
would indicate incorporation of cut straw in the adobe and therefore, use of a threshing sledge.
