The overall transcriptome changes were discriminated by the radiation dose rather than the radiation type and manifested mainly by DNA damage response (DDR) genes. Transcription levels of major DDR genes were found to increase in a dose-dependent manner but were rarely affected by the radiation type. To evaluate the genotoxic stress of X- or gamm-irradiation at two different doses proven to stimulate or inhibit cell growth, we compared the genome-wide transcriptomic profiles of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii by RNA-Seq analysis after X- or gamma-irradiation at doses of 6 and 50 Gy.
