Alteromonas sp. strain 5.12, isolated from a sediment sample collected from the Southwest Indian Ridge, Indian Ocean was able to produce biopolymer and exopolysachharide and harboured genes for sulphur reduction. Analysis of its draft genome sequence provides insights into its genetic composition indicating its adaptability to hydrothermally influenced ridge ecosystem.
