A survey ofNew Jersey's inshore surf clam resource was conducted. A total of326 stations were sampled from June 8, 1994 through August 12, 1994. A commercial hydraulic clam dredge equipped with a 72-inch knife was used to determine clam abundance at each station. Surf clam population structure was determined by measuring clams from a one bushel subsample of the catch per station and constructing length frequency distributions. Juvenile set was monitored by collecting 0.1 square meter Petersen grab samples from each station. Grant no. NA46FI0261
