Great Lakes Ports

Shipping vessel trips to port (2004-2013). Data provided by: Elon O'Malia and Dr. Joel Hoffman (EPA). Data gathered by E. O'Malia, University of Minnesota Duluth/EPA - (2014). Vessel trips to port data came from the National Ballast Information Clearinghouse (NBIC) and public shipping records for Canadian ports. Port locations were provided by David Allan at the University of Michigan (see credits below); commercial maritime vessel trips were summarized from the National ballast information clearinghouse (NBIC) website (see credits below). The number of vessel trips for each of the 60 ports was calculated by summarizing trips per arrival port in the NBIC database for each state, then combining all the ports into one dataset. Vessel trips data is the total of all vessel trips to a port from 2004 - 2013. Data gathered by E.
