Annotated samples for: Tied together, fried together: Understanding semantic extensibility through semantic loss.

This dataset contains semantically annotated random samples for the preposition and adverb <i>about</i>, the adjective <i>awful</i> and the multifunctional item <i>so </i>analyzed for the paper 'Tied together, fried together: Understanding semantic extensibility through semantic loss' (Ceuppens & De Smet 2025). The dataset was created to revisit the concepts of sanctioning, directionality and clustering from Radial Network Theory (Tyler & Evans 2001) with evidence from semantic loss. Random samples from different time periods were drawn from EEBO, CLMET and BNC. Each sample was annotated for sense (and in the case of <i>so</i>, form) according to the data coding protocols described in Ceuppens & De Smet (2025). This dataset may be useful for researchers looking to replicate the study's results or build upon its findings.
